Humanity is Calling Us to Step Up
Here's a little poem I quickly drafted up today after hearing the dreadful news about Las Vegas. It got me thinking about everything that's happened these past few years.
I've heard that in order to know when we need to make a change, we must first get UNCOMFORTABLE. Well, I think it's fair enough to say that the world is pretty uneasy nowadays. So, what do we change? Don't think too hard. Just get out there and do something. We've all got some digging deep to do...

Dire, dire, lit on fire
Countries left and right grow tired
One man’s hand to call the shots
No pun intended – connect the dots
He’s a terrorist, don’t shy away
From the dreaded word we fear to say
They live among us everywhere
In black, in brown, in white skin fair
The only way we can defeat
This madness in the wake of heat
Be kind, be loving, don’t judge so easy
Listen to the ones who are pleading
Look at me, like you would in mirror
What do you see?
A human. A child. A soul. Any clearer?
Indeed.
For those of us not lucky enough
To grow up surrounded by love and trust
Please don’t give up. Please find your hope.
There is humanity throwing a rope
Safety in numbers, remember that?
Now stand together, and tall, fight back
With love and joy and relentless intention
To acknowledge the pain that others have been through
Nobody knows when this will all end
But we sure as hell can improve the mend.
