There are too many emotions going through all our heads tonight/today...wherever you may be in the world. This is NOT what we expected. For many, this is the beginning of a nightmare...
While there are FAR MORE disturbing qualities about Donald Trump than good, this is our new president. The reality is clear. A large portion of our country with pent-up anger and disappointment have finally spoken out in the election. As many have said, this election was a choice between the "lesser of two evils". Tears of deepened sadness, and tears of immense relief will be shed today.
My initial reaction to the results were, "What the actual f***?!" and "How can someone SO unqualified, racist, blatantly disrespectful to women and minorities, and ignorant of global issues like climate change become PRESIDENT?" A man with such shallow-minded, reckless comments does not deserve the seat in the White House...yet he won. That should really say something to America, and the rest of the world. The campaign road has been a mentally exhausting marathon to endure - with now half the country biting their nails in fear of what's to come. After reading many articles and listening to the Luxembourg Prime Minister on the radio this morning, this is what I've come to realize:
Donald Trump is someone who doesn't have the "Washington D.C. mentality" that we're so accustomed to - which more often than not is corrupt, over anything else.
A lot of really angry and disenfranchised people made this happen. Voices need to be heard in our democracy (a lot like Brexit) and although they picked a really bad messenger (in my opinion), their anger is real.
"It appears we are witnessing the reaction of the working-class citizens/voters, especially non-college-educated men and women. Our democracies have failed to provide real perspective for this group of voters: many of them feel left behind in a complex world and will vote for each candidate that promises to turn against the establishment and the corrupt elites." - a Facebook post by someone my boyfriend sent to me
"Sensation-driven media have certainly largely contributed to a world where facts matter less than underbelly emotions" - same person as above...ulterior motives are shoved down our throats in disguise every day.
Donald Trump is one man. The number of outraged Americans and people around the world have the power to move impeachment.
A lesson is learned that Americans should remain ACTIVE not only in presidential elections, but in all local elections of our communities.
Donald Trump cannot determine the fate, happiness, and success of everyone in this country. It is OUR responsibility to fight back, if necessary.
At the end of the day, we are stronger together - but only through love and the willingness to protect. We must defend each other, and not one man's false vision. Keep your friends, communities, families, and beliefs close to your heart, America. Despite what has happened, our power remains untouchable. BE AWAKE. BE AWARE. The best way to lose power is to believe you don't have it in the first place. We all have a voice and the ability to revolt if Trump becomes corrupt himself. I write this in the safety of a warm home in Luxembourg, but mark my words when I say that I am prepared to revolt if Trump treats MY PEOPLE poorly.
If the president cannot be a role model for our country, than that is what WE must become.
